How to Wear a Kada With Western Outfits

A kada with a white shirt, a black dress or denim. How to wear one festive statement with everyday clothes.

The short answerWear one statement kada on its own against a plain outfit: a white shirt, a black dress or a denim jacket. Push sleeves up so it shows, keep other jewellery minimal and in a matching gold tone, and add a slim Everyday bracelet beside it if you want a stack.

A kada does not need a lehenga. Against simple western clothes, a single sculpted kada looks like the most interesting thing in the room, and it gets your festive jewellery out of the box more than twice a year.

Outfits that work

Outfit How to wear the kada Try
Crisp white shirt Sleeves rolled, one kada, small studs Kalapi Peacock Kada
Little black dress A jewelled kada as the only piece Shahi Bagh Jewelled Kadas
Denim and a tee A filigree kada with a slim tennis bracelet Nawabi Filigree Kadas
Blazer and trousers A cuff at the wrist, sleeves pushed up Jharokha Kundan-Style Cuff
Co-ord set or slip dress A pair, one on each wrist Any kada pair

The rules

  1. One statement. The kada leads. Skip big earrings and necklaces.
  2. Plain backgrounds. Solid colours make detailed metalwork stand out.
  3. Show the wrist. Rolled or three-quarter sleeves, or sleeveless.
  4. Stay in one tone. Antique gold works with gold Everyday pieces.

Stacking with Everyday gold

A kada next to a fine tennis bracelet is the easiest way to mix festive and everyday. Keep the slim piece closer to the hand and the kada above it. Our guide to mixing everyday gold with traditional jewellery has more combinations.

Getting the size right

Most of our kadas come in 2.4 and 2.6. A kada should slide over your hand with a gentle squeeze and not fall off. Use our bangle size guide to measure at home.

Care

UTSAV kadas are brass-based and hand-finished. They are not waterproof, so take them off before washing your hands, cooking or showering, wipe them with a dry cloth, and store them in their pouch. Each carries a 6-month Finish Promise.

Questions we hear often

Can I wear a kada every day?

You can wear it often, but take it off for anything involving water, since festive kadas are not waterproof.

Which wrist should a kada go on?

Either. Wear it on the wrist without your watch, or one on each wrist for a symmetrical look.

Can men wear kadas?

Yes, kadas are traditionally worn by men too. For a waterproof steel option, see Priskel Black.
