The short answerIn India, bangle sizes like 2.4 and 2.6 describe the inner diameter in inches and sixteenths: 2.4 means 2 and 4/16 inches (about 57 mm), and 2.6 means 2 and 6/16 inches (about 60 mm). Most adult women wear 2.4 or 2.6. Measure the inside of a bangle that already fits you and match it to the chart below.

Bangle sizing is one of the most common questions we get, mostly because the numbers look like decimals but are not. Here is what they mean and how to find yours.

What does bangle size 2.4 mean?

The number before the point is whole inches. The number after it is sixteenths of an inch, not tenths. So size 2.4 is 2 + 4/16 = 2.25 inches across the inside, and 2.6 is 2 + 6/16 = 2.375 inches.

Size Inner diameter (inches) Inner diameter (mm, approx.) Usually fits
2.2 2.125 54 Petite hands
2.4 2.25 57 Small to medium hands
2.6 2.375 60 Medium to large hands
2.8 2.5 64 Large hands

UTSAV kadas and bangles currently come in 2.4 and 2.6.

How to measure your bangle size at home

Method 1: measure a bangle you own

  1. Pick a bangle that slides over your hand comfortably.
  2. Measure straight across the inside, edge to edge, at the widest point.
  3. Match the measurement to the chart. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.

Method 2: measure your hand

  1. Bring your thumb and little finger together, as if putting on a bangle.
  2. Wrap a thread or soft tape around the widest part of your hand, across the knuckles.
  3. Divide that length by 3.14 to get the diameter, then match it to the chart.

A bangle should slide over your hand with gentle effort and move freely on the wrist, without falling off.

Kadas with hinges fit differently

A closed bangle must pass over the widest part of your hand. A hinged kada opens, so it never squeezes past the knuckles and you can choose the size that suits your wrist. The Nawabi Filigree Kadas have a screw hinge, while the Kalapi Peacock Kada, Riyasat Meenakari Kadas and Shahi Bagh Jewelled Kadas all open on a hinge.

Kada or bangle: which should I choose?

  • Kada: broader and more structured, a statement on its own. Wear one per wrist, or two together.
  • Bangles: slimmer and made for stacking, like the Rangmahal Gemstone Bangles, set with stones in five colours.

Questions we hear often

Is 2.4 or 2.6 more common?

Both are common for adult women. 2.4 suits slimmer hands; 2.6 suits most medium to larger hands.

What if I am between sizes?

Choose the larger size for closed bangles. For hinged kadas, choose the size closest to your wrist.

Is bangle size the same as wrist size?

No. A closed bangle is sized by your hand, because it has to pass over your knuckles. Only hinged and open styles can be sized to the wrist.
