The short answerPlan by day. Light studs and one kada for pandal hopping; statement earrings and bangles for evenings; and for Bijoya Dashami's sindoor khela, bold antique gold with a red-and-white saree. Keep festive pieces away from water and sindoor, and wipe them after each day.
Durga Puja is five days of new outfits, crowds, adda and long evenings. Jewellery has to look festive, survive hours of walking, and suit very different moments.
Day by day
| Moment | Wear | Try |
|---|---|---|
| Pandal hopping | Light studs and one kada | Gulnaar Crystal Studs |
| Anjali (morning) | Simple and traditional | Bangles, small earrings |
| Evenings and adda | Statement earrings or an ear cuff | Neelkanth Peacock Ear Cuff |
| Bijoya Dashami | Bold antique gold with red and white | Kalapi Peacock Kada |
The red-and-white look
On Bijoya Dashami, the red-bordered white saree is iconic. Antique gold looks best with it: a broad kada, bangles and statement earrings. Many married Bengali women also wear shankha-pola, the traditional white and red bangles, alongside gold. Add a gold kada next to them rather than replacing them.
Sindoor khela tips
- Sindoor stains enamel and settles into filigree. Wear pieces with smooth surfaces, or ones you can wipe easily.
- Keep your favourite meenakari for the evening, after sindoor khela.
- Wipe jewellery with a soft, dry cloth straight afterwards.
Comfort for five days
- Choose lighter earrings for long walks between pandals.
- One statement piece per day is enough.
- Pin your aanchal so it does not catch on earrings or a kada.
Care

Questions we hear often
What jewellery goes with a red and white saree?
Antique gold: a kada or bangles, statement earrings, and shankha-pola if you wear them.
What should I wear for pandal hopping?
Light studs, one kada or a few bangles, and comfortable footwear. Save heavier pieces for the evening.
Will sindoor damage my jewellery?
It can stain enamel and settle in detailed metalwork. Wipe pieces immediately after sindoor khela.
